Ploughman’s Lunch and Cream Tea Afternoon

5 September 2021

Parishioners attended a delightful sunny afternoon in the garden of English Martyrs Catholic Church.  This was our first event this year and it was received very well by parishioners.  The event also coincided with Fr Matthias’ return from Ghana.  We only charged £5 to cover costs as we really wanted this to be ‘a coming together parish celebration’ rather than a fundraiser.  However, we still managed to raise £100.

40s Night
Saturday evening, 4 May 2019 saw parishioners and friends and families turn back the clock to the year 1940.

The evening was a great success and was a wonderful evening of laugher, music and entertainment by The Femmes, who were quite simply fantastic and very professional. Over 80 people attended, many in fancy dress as you can see from the photos!! It was lovely to see so many children/
teenagers present with their parents. We have received lots of positive feedback and quote a few of the comments received below.
Thank you all for attending and anyone who supported this event in any way. Please keep an eye on the newsletter for the next social event that will be taking place in the parish next.

Elvis Night 27 January 2018

This was a great night and very well attended by parishioners, their friends and families. We had well over 120 people present and the feedback received was very positive. The event made a profit of £1,191.00.

Italian Evening 10 March 2018
Venue: Little Baddow Memorial Hall, Little Baddow
Again, this was very well attended by parishioners. Social committee members Pat and Lorenzo Borrelli made a wonderful four course meal for everyone attending and the food was delicious. We had a wonderful team of helpers who came forward to help in the kitchen both during the day and the evening. Parishioners also volunteered, along with some of the youth of our parish, to wait on tables. The feedback we received from this event was very complimentary. The event made a profit of £875.00.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Evening 9 June 2018
Venue: St Joseph’s School Hall, South Woodham Ferrers
Jim Tidmarsh and his band ‘Quiff and the Shades’ entertained us for the evening. Again, this was a very enjoyable evening and attended well by parishioners. The feedback received was again very positive. This event made a profit of £650.00.

Bring & Share Afternoon – 23 September 2018
Venue: Little Baddow Memorial Hall, Little Baddow
This was a free event to attend and we asked parishioners to bring some food to share. We had about 40 parishioners come along to this event. It was a shame that the event was not as well attended as it could have been. There was plenty of food for all to share and the feedback received was very positive with parishioners saying we should do this more often as a parish. It was a lovely afternoon and nice to see parishioners coming together to share in food and chat.

Fr James’ Going Away Party/Elvis – 6 October 2018
Venue: Danbury Village Hall, Danbury
Elvis was back and in fine form. This was a free event as Fr James paid for Elvis and an anonymous donor paid for the hall hire. It was a great evening and enjoyed by all who attended.
