40s Night May 2019

Saturday evening, 4 May 2019 saw parishioners and friends and families turn back the clock to the year 1940.  The evening was a great success and was a wonderful evening of laugher, music and entertainment by The Femmes, who were quite simply fantastic and very professional.  Over 80 people attended, many in fancy dress as you can see from the photos!!

Fr Gervase travelled to Birmingham on Tuesday 9 April

To support Alexander Johnson, second year seminarian at St Mary’s College, Oscott, as he was instituted in the ministry of Reader by the Right Reverend Paul Swarbrick, Bishop of Lancaster. This is one of the first steps toward priesthood and was previously one of the “minor orders” which lead to the major ordinations, first to the transitional diaconate and finally to priesthood.

Alexander receiving the Holy Scriptures from Bishop Paul Swarbrick of Lancaster,

During the Mass, Bishop Paul invited everyone to pray and ask God “to bless these servants who have been chosen for the ministry of reader” that “they may be faithful to the work entrusted to them, proclaim Christ to the world, and so give glory to our Father in heaven.” On giving each candidate a Bible, the bishop said: “Take this book of the holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.”
Alexander is one of four seminarians from Brentwood who are discerning for the priesthood at Oscott. Please keep Alexander and the other seminarians in your prayers; pray also for vocations to the priesthood.
