English Martyrs Danbury with Holy Trinity South Woodham Ferrers The Parish Social Committee
Social Events March 2019

The social committee have been very active. Here are a list of events that have taken place in the parish and some future events …

Elvis Night 27 January 2018 Venue: Danbury Village Hall, Danbury This was a great night and very well attended by parishioners, their friends and families. We had well over 120 people present and the feedback received was very positive. The event made a profit of £1,191.00.

Italian Evening 10 March 2018 Venue: Little Baddow Memorial Hall, Little Baddow Again, this was very well attended by parishioners. Social committee members Pat and Lorenzo Borrelli made a wonderful four course meal for everyone attending and the food was delicious. We had a wonderful team of helpers who came forward to help in the kitchen both during the day and the evening. Parishioners also volunteered, along with some of the youth of our parish, to wait on tables. The feedback we received from this event was very complimentary. The event made a profit of £875.00.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Evening 9 June 2018 Venue: St Joseph’s School Hall, South Woodham Ferrers Jim Tidmarsh and his band ‘Quiff and the Shades’ entertained us for the evening. Again, this was a very enjoyable evening and attended well by parishioners. The feedback received was again very positive. This event made a profit of £650.00.

Bring & Share Afternoon – 23 September 2018 Venue: Little Baddow Memorial Hall, Little Baddow This was a free event to attend and we asked parishioners to bring some food to share. We had about 40 parishioners come along to this event. It was a shame that the event was not as well attended as it could have been. There was plenty of food for all to share and the feedback received was very positive with parishioners saying we should do this more often as a parish. It was a lovely afternoon and nice to see parishioners coming together to share in food and chat.

Fr James’ Going Away Party/Elvis – 6 October 2018 Venue: Danbury Village Hall, Danbury Elvis was back and in fine form. This was a free
event as Fr James paid for Elvis and an anonymous donor paid for the hall hire. It was a great evening and enjoyed by all who attended.

Day Trip to Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre – 24 November 2018 Parishioners enjoyed a lovely day out to the Christmas Market and carols in the cathedral.

Christmas Raffle The annual Christmas raffle was held with donations being collected from parishioners to make up eight Christmas hampers, plus the first prize of £100 cash. A profit of £470 was raised for parish funds.

Race Night – 2 February 2019 Venue: St Joseph’s School Hall, South Woodham Ferrers The race night was a great success and well attended by parishioners, friends and families. Paul’s Race Night who hosted the evening was fantastic. We managed to raise £641 for parish funds.

Ceilidh Night – 16 March 2019 Venue: Little Baddow Memorial Hall, Little Baddow Five piece ceilidh band, Bushes and Briars, will be entertaining us on the evening. Tickets are £15 each (children free) which will include a stew supper. Bring your own drink and nibbles, singing voices and dancing shoes!! 1940’s Night – May 2019 (TBC) Venue: TBC We have the Femmes, a three piece female 1940’s band, coming to entertain us. More details to follow.

Tea/Coffee and Cake English Martyrs Conservatory – First Sunday of the Month after 10.45am Mass This is being very well received by parishioners in Danbury. It is lovely to see parishioners coming together socially after Mass.
